by Crystal J. Briscoe on October 4, 2011

If you are running your blog and planning to do SEO for it then not only that you must know about the SEO techniques that will work best for your blog but you must also know about those SEO techniques that are out dated and Google doesn’t care about them anymore. If you are still using any of those SEO techniques then you are doing nothing but wasting your time. Get a life and research about those SEO techniques that actually work today. Below is the description of 5 outdated SEO techniques that are of no use at all and Google doesn’t consider them anymore.

Outdated SEO Techniques

Keyword Stuffing:

The time when SEO started, there was not too much competition in the online world and writers and bloggers used to stuff their content with so many keywords. It is obvious that if you will keep stuffing your article with so many keywords then you will never be able to provide quality information to your visitors. Google has also come to know about this lame technique used by many SEO professionals and that is why you should not use these techniques at all. You should use keywords but you must make sure to use a specific density of a particular keyword. Keeping your keyword density till 2% is a great way to go.

Blog Comment Spamming:

A great way to increase the backlinks of your website and increase the traffic is by adding your website links to blog comments. However, if you will overdo this thing then it will be termed as blog comment spamming. This is not good for your website at all. Search engines will analyze each and every backlink to your website and if they find unnecessary backlinks then they will move you down in search results. So, if you want to rank high in SERP then you should not indulge in any activity like Blog comment Spamming.

Search Engine Submission:

It is really funny that there are so many people that are providing services to submit your website to search engines. This is nothing but waste of your time and money. If we talk about today’s SEO world then this technique doesn’t make any difference at all. If you really want to submit your website somewhere then submit it in social media websites like Facebook and Twitter.

Meta Tag Optimization:

Meta tags have really seen a green time when search engines used to see these tags to rank a website but unfortunately, there is no use of these Meta tags now. These tags will serve the purpose to provide short description about your website and nothing else. If you are thinking that adding Meta tags to your webpage will increase the SEO ranking then you are wrong. You have to pay attention towards actual SEO strategies to rank higher in search engine results.

Link Exchange:

Seriously! Do you really believe that link exchanging will work for you? If you are thinking like this then you are going to make a mistake and nothing else. There was a time when link exchange used to work but today, search engines don’t pay attention towards two way links at all.

You’ve pointed out all the right reasons, Crystal. Optimization of Meta Tags for one, is very important. Since its also a short description of our business its very important for us to use all the right words which can convince the reader to find out more about our website. We have to know how to effectively write that short paragraph.

Meta Tag Optimization is still important, but Meta Keyword is useless as far as Google is concerned. Google now consider only Title and Meta Description in SERP snippet.

  • OgbongeBlog

Great tips out there but seems meta tag optimization is still relevance. You can experiment with two blogs and you will notice the difference

  • iPad Application Developer

All these are Outdated SEO Techniques but some people are still using these techniques. According to me Meta Tag Optimization is still imported because Google consider Meta Title and Meta Description in SERP. It won’t consider Meta Keywords.

I am amazed at how many people still follow these out-dated SEO tips. I can see it on my blog with useless comments, or on forums where they ask for a link exchange. SEO is constantly changing and many of the tips we use today may become outdated a year from now.

still many users are stuck to keyword stuffing and spamming thro comments..

  • http://www.ctrlfind.com Aarti

People generally use these outdated techniques as they don’t update yourself about changing SEO techniques and stay behind.

Totally agreed with Paul Salmon!! I too see many keyword stuffing (on signature) in almost every forums.

  • http://www.profitblog.com Raj

I still keep getting link exchange requests – Its time they realized that its out of fashion. When people can get a solid one way link by guest blogging, why settle for link exchange?

    Couldn’t agree more :)

  • http://www.verticalmeasures.com Sarah

Two way links in bulk, as a strategy, won’t help you. But linking to someone’s website in a blog post, and then them linking back to you will not hurt you either. In fact, it actually does help you. Everything in moderation and as natural as possible is the way to do it.
